When you upgrade inside the ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Grok app on an iPhone or iPad, Apple charges you and manages the renewal, and the AI provider delivers the plan. It changes how you pay, not what the plan includes.
Whether it works for you depends on four things: the app sells the plan in your Apple Account's country, you have a payment method or balance from that country, any gift card matches that country, and the subscription can keep renewing. We track App Store prices in 42 countries.

Changing your Apple Account region
Your Apple Account's country decides everything you see in the App Store. Before Apple lets you change it, you usually need to:
- Spend your remaining balance (contact Apple if it is too small to spend).
- Cancel active subscriptions and wait until the current billing period ends.
- Wait for pre-orders, rentals and season passes to finish.
- Add a payment method that works in the new country.
- Sort out Family Sharing if you are in a family group.
- Keep your account's country, billing address and payment method consistent with your real situation. Using details that are not true can break Apple's Media Services terms.
Paying with a card, balance or gift card
- Payment methods vary by country: cards, local wallets, mobile carrier billing and Apple Account balance from gift cards.
- Apple Gift Cards can only be redeemed on an Apple Account in the same country as the card.
- Balance can pay for subscriptions, but Apple may still ask for a valid payment method on the account.
- Each renewal is taken from the balance first; if it is too low and there is no other payment method, the renewal fails.
Managing, cancelling and refunds
- See and cancel subscriptions in Settings > your name > Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not stop the charges.
- Renewal dates are shown in the same list. Top up your balance before the renewal date if you pay with balance.
- Refunds for App Store subscriptions are requested from Apple, and Apple decides.
- Contact the AI provider if you paid but the plan is not active or features do not work.
- If you already pay on the provider's website, buying in the app as well can charge you twice. Cancel one first.

Can I change my Apple Account country to get a cheaper price?

Yes, when you subscribe inside the iPhone or iPad app, as long as the balance is in the same country as your Apple Account and covers the price including tax.
Who handles refunds for App Store subscriptions?
Apple. Request a refund from Apple; whether it is approved is Apple's decision. Problems with the plan itself go to the AI provider's support.
